Work for Love runs an Educare Centre in Masiphumelele. It is an educare initiated by the community for the community. Our motto is:
TEACHING THROUGH CARING.
A Playschool was
started in 2008 by Lucia Ntombovuyo Jange as a way of caring for
the children left unattended in the wetlands- the informal
settlement of the township. Lucia opened her shack and together
with Akhona Gom, Zanele Rasimeni, Nolupho Phama and other
mothers. Food and safety was provided for the 50 children free
of charge. Work for Love was asked and willingly agreed to
support this warm initiative of dynamic mothers wishing to make
a difference in their challenged community. Soon after forming
this partnership Lucia was diagnosed with serious heart disease.
She did not survive the 2 months until her scheduled heart
surgery and on her death bed asking Work for Love to develop
this school and to call it Siyakhula "We are growing". Work for
Love secured a property in Masiphumelele proper and Work for
Love's Siyakhula Educare Centre opened it's doors in February
2010 in a beautifully renovated building. Akhona and Zanele
started training at the Imhoff Waldorf School and the Centre for
Creative Education. The Federation of Waldorf School has helped
in providing mentorship on site and a German Waldorf Student,
Amelie Raith volunteers every day at the school for one year. We
have so far helped 4 other women from Masiphumelele train as
Educare Teachers at the Centre for Creative Education.
This year 2011 we have
employed an almost fully trained Waldorf Educare teacher
Nontsikelelo Kafundo. We are currently building two new
classrooms and are open to applications for new intake from
April 2011. Please phone Vuyiswa in the office for more info 021
7854431.
Our plan this year is to
build a hall in which to provide gross motor stimulation groups
as well as story telling and puppet shows for the children from
the informal child care centres in the Masiphumelele community.
Together with the Imhoff Waldorf School we are offering parent
support and craft activities for our parents on a regular basis.
We want to express our deep
thanks to all our volunteers who give their time and resources.
Thank you to our local supporters: the Imhoff Waldorf School
Community who provides vegetable for our lunches each week as
well as toys and clothes, Sally Berg who gave a percentage of
her inheritance to pay for the building, Electrospec for doing
all our electrical work at no cost at all, Anne and Kjetil Hanna
who has mobilized her community in Norway to sponsor the
children, Sam Squire-How, Kathryn le Roux, Guthrie and Rushton,
Mary Butlin, Mark Frankel, Anne Lomax, Peter Kemp, Hazel
Anderson, Aroundaboutcars who all sponsor one or more children
at the school, Margie Robertson, Nick Murgatroid and Richard Cox
who have donated funds and to Pennypinchers, Jenkor, Ruben the
builder, Rodgers Fruiterers, MLS Architects, Hoosen Plumbers,
Valley Glass and South Pennisula Tool Hire who have been
generous with discounts. What a true community in the South
Pennisula. Without your generosity our work would not be
possible. Enkosi Kakhulu.
Where there is love, esteem and
rhythm a child finds security.
Where there is purposeful activity a child livers with joy.
Where there is beauty a child is filled with wonder.
What greater gift can we give to our children?

The time between birth and age six is a time of growth and
learning unparalleled in later life. Tremendous development
occurs and appropriate nutrition of body and soul is vital. |
